I just read that a while ago, and its awesome for Miami and a huge surprise. They went out and spent a ton, thats great. I was totally wrong, I didnt think Miami would make that commitment.

I am not sure if Gruden would take the job or not. But there are alot of reasons he would. The guy is a florida guy. His family I believe is still in Tampa and I think he has two kids that are in high school now. Maybe he can see coaching his son at Miami as a draw. I think he believes he could win big there. ACC isn't the toughest conference in the world and if you have the recruiting base Miami has it is hard to understand how you couldn't have alot of success.

The other side is I think Tampa is still paying him around 5 mil per year at least thru next year. I also read where he is making around 4 mil for monday night football. That is alot of money to leave on the table. Also Gruden's offense is one of the most complicated offense's out there. I am not sure how well it would work in the college game. He isn't a proven recruiter but hey it's Miami. I don't guess you have to be. I think Miami has alot of better options out there. Gruden is a good coach but he is hard core football. I am not sure he is a good fit for the type kids that Miami has had success with in the past. JMO....

ESPN's Joe Schad is reporting that sources say there is "zero" chance Jon Gruden will accept the Miami head coaching position.

Let's hope so (keeping fingers crossed). Miami needs a coach that will put the work in for a long haul, not coach a yr or so and head to the NFL.

Re: For those that care...(Miami related)

I'll break my silence in light of recent developments.

It was reported that last night there was an agreement in principle between Gruden and Miami of 4 years/approx 17 million...thusly the Canesport/Miami Herald/Palm Beach Post/790 The Ticket reports of an imminent deal. Miami met all of Gruden's other demands as far as recruiting budget and staff budget. The finer details were to be hammered out today, and many expected the deal to be finalized. So, the "Miami doesn't have the money" or "Gruden never had interest" excuses are categorically falsified given all of that.

What's being reported now as the sticking point, was that Jon Gruden wanted a clause in his contract that if/when he left Miami for an NFL job, that Jay Gruden would be his coach-in-waiting, and would automatically get the job. Miami was good with Jay being the OC on this staff--so no issue with that, but thankfully for Hocutt--he didn't let Gruden dictate to him who the next coach after Gruden would be. It's not up to Jon to get his little bro Jay the Miami HC gig by proxy. If we wanted Jay as the HC, we would have offered him and not Jon the job (at much less money, to boot).

So...negotiations are said to be still open, but it looks highly unlikely that Gruden won't be at UM...but let me be clear--it is NOT for the reasons that have been brought up by others in this thread. The money was there, the mutual interest was there, but UM wouldn't be dictated to as far as who Jon's successor would be once he moves on to the NFL (which was a foregone conclusion).

Next on the list is Dan Mullen, Miss. State HC and former UF/Utah/Bowling Green OC under Urban Meyer.
